I am running to be your next State Senator because I know that together, we can realize the promise of a bright future for all.
I believe in people and passion over politics and partisanship. Each vote I will cast on the Senate floor belongs to you... the people of Senate District 7. I come prepared to make critical decisions, recognizing the importance of people and lawmaking over politics and partisanship.
Just over a century ago, my grandparents left all they knew in southern Italy in the hopes of building a better life on the Iron Range of northern Minnesota. They and my parents instilled in me the values of respect, hard work, compassion, and giving back to community.
After graduating from Chisholm High School, Hibbing Community College, and the University of Minnesota Duluth with a Bachelor of Accounting, 27 years ago my husband Paul and I returned to the Iron Range to live and raise our daughter, Katie.
I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) with extensive financial, compliance, and investigatory experience in both the public and private sectors, including in public education, manufacturing, multi-state retail, and public accounting.
With 24 years of service in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, I have 18 years of internal audit experience and now serve as a Business Manager for Minnesota North College.
A small business owner, community organizer, advocate for others, and proud union member for the majority of my career, I have a track record of investing in our community, region, and people. I am in my 6th year both on the Hibbing School Board and on the Range Associations of Municipalities and Schools (RAMS) Board. I previously served over 4 years on the Hibbing Fire Civil Service Commission and have also served our communities, schools, and local organizations on numerous other committees and initiatives. Most recently, I have helped lead efforts to open a Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland site in Hibbing, which is set to open fall 2022 and will provide out-of-school time programs accessible to all youth.
I am a person of integrity who leads by example, standing up for all people and for what is right. I will do my homework, work collaboratively, speak the truth, and I will never, ever give up on the people of the Northland.
These times call for public servants, not politicians. You can trust me to serve and fight just as tirelessly for you in St. Paul as you fight to make our communities to be the best they can be right here at home.
Kim is proud to be a public servant, not a politician.
Her votes in the Minnesota Senate will belong entirely to the people of the Iron Range and the Northland. She will represent our values, uplift all of our voices, and work collaboratively with other legislators - no matter their party affiliation - to get the work done that matters to all of us here in the Northland.
Our state government should manage its finances the same way most middle and working class families in the Northland do... responsibly.
With 30 years of professional experiences as a CPA and as a Certified Fraud Examiner across the public and private sectors, Kim will bring to the Minnesota Senate the financial background, experience, and skills necessary to effectively protect working families.
Relationships are at the heart of safe and healthy communities.
In the Minnesota Senate, Kim will draw upon her experience as a Fire Civil Service Commissioner and School Board Director, and she will stand up for increased funding for EMS, fire, police, and mental health services in our Northland and greater Minnesota communities.
Kim believes wholeheartedly in the power of great education and job training. She has dedicated her life to fighting for every person to have great opportunities to prepare for a bright future, whether that means further education, entering the workforce, starting a business, enlisting in the military, or other.
In the Minnesota Senate, Kim will draw upon nearly 25 years of professional service with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system throughout northeastern Minnesota, where she worked first as an internal auditor and now as a business manager, as well as her 6 years of service as a Board Director of the Hibbing Public Schools and as a board member of the Range Association of Municipalities and Schools (RAMS).
As a mother herself and having been a caretaker for her mother, Kim knows how critically important healthcare is for all of us, our children, our families, and our aging communities in the Northland.
In the State Senate, Kim will fight to make sure that all people in the Northland have access to high quality, affordable healthcare, including mental healthcare, and that prescriptions are affordable for all of us.
Kim is pro-union and pro-labor. She was a proud union member for the majority of her career and is the spouse of a proud union member.
As our State Senator, she will stand with us. Not only that, but she is proud that in her role as School Board Director, she helped to lead negotiations that resulted in a labor agreement between the district and its phenomenal educators and support staff.
Kim is a proud Iron Ranger. As our State Senator, she will support our existing resource-based industries, support existing small businesses, and support the introduction of new small businesses as well the diversification of our economy in the Northland.
Now, more than ever, we must stand up together, for one another, and for the right thing.
Kim is proud to be a woman who fights to uplift the voices of all women and all people whose voices have not been heard for far too long. This is one of the many reasons she is humbled to be running to be the first female Minnesota Senator from the Iron Range.
Miners and their families have been woven into the fabric of our local communities since the first ore shipped from the Vermilion Range in 1884, and some 130 plus years later mining continues to be a cornerstone of our regional economy and supports our country and world.
Proud to have been born and raised on the Iron Range in a family whose work supported the mining industry, as our State Senator, Kim will be a strong, clear voice fighting to make sure that mining and its supporting industries are central to our economy and way of life for the next 130 years and beyond.
Everyone has the right to a place to call home. It is unacceptable that many of our neighbors in the Northland are unable to access or maintain affordable housing.
As our next State Senator, Kim will support the ability of more people to afford homes and will protect the rights of renters to live in safe housing.
